2017 was an interesting year for Chicago. 2016 had been the deadliest year in two decades, logging 771 murders. In response, Chicago added police officers to the street and invested in new technology to respond to crime.
Though Chicago saw a 16% decline in murders compared to the previous year, the city still saw 650 murders in 2017, mostly on the city's south and west sides. Scroll through time to see homicides by month or click on the map to get information about each homicide in 2017.
