Tara Mittelberg is an interdisciplinary social scientist in the UW-Madison Department of Agricultural & Applied Economics and Nelson Institute’s Center for Sustainability and the Global Environment (SAGE). Her research interests center on agricultural land management, particularly how U.S. and international sustainability policies influence farmer decision-making and land-use dynamics in tropical landscapes. Prior to joining the Gibbs lab in 2021, Tara was an analyst at NORC at the University of Chicago, where she researched international agricultural development, natural resource governance, and labor issues. She was also a Fulbright Scholar in Londrina, Brazil, where she studied social barriers to the prevention of herbicide-resistant weeds. Tara received her BA in Environmental Sciences and International Studies from Northwestern University in 2017.
